Kashkoush Tunnel – Nahr El Kalb
Water Conveyance to Treatment Facility
As part of a study by SNC-Lavalin, Canada, our team was engaged in a joint venture with the Council of Development and Reconstruction to support a water supply project extending from Jeita Grotto to a water treatment facility in Dbayeh, serving the greater Beirut area. We provided geotechnical investigation, tunnel liner support design, and excavation methods to ensure stable and safe construction. The tunnel, designed to reach the water source beneath a rock formation up to 170 meters high, features a horseshoe shape with dimensions of 2.5 meters in width by 3 meters in height, extending over 4.5 kilometers.
Engineering Practical and Simplified Solutions
Rock assessment and characterization were conducted along the proposed tunnel line. The tunnel excavation and support system design incorporated anchor bolts and a reinforced shotcrete liner at the portal. Excavation progressed using micro-blasting to expedite the process, followed using steel structural members for radial support. Our team delivered IFC drawings and specifications within a uniquely limited time frame.
Supporting Construction, Highlighting safety
Delivering on time enabled our client to proceed with the construction plan without delays. Supporting alternative solutions and value engineering provided flexibility and ensured the project's successful completion.
