Al-Reem Island Coastal Development Plot 1 - 2.2 km Stretch

Marina Bay, Helipad, Sand Beach Protection, Marina Walkway, Boat Refuelling Station

Site:
Abu Dhabi, UAE

The city of Abu Dhabi planned a 2.2 km marina development as part of a broader project featuring multiple high-rise structures for residential, tourism, and commercial use. The development also includes a 220m long sandy beach, a marina with an 11m bathymetric depth for yachts, and a helipad.

The client requested us to provide design-build services, including engineering design, IFC plans, permits, construction implementation and supervision, and project management, to complete the project within 12 months. Our technical team developed an innovative design demonstrating value engineering and cost-effective solutions, combining geotechnical and geo-structural approaches. This resulted in a post-tensioned design concept that accommodates varying loads from marine structures and climatic changes. The project was successfully completed in collaboration with DST Group (Middle East)

Value Engineered Solutions,  Simplifying Projects, Maximizing Efficiency

During the design stage, several challenges emerged, including a 50-year performance specification with potentially varying criteria. The geotechnical design involved 1200 mm secant cast-in-place bored piles laterally supported by setback reaction structures. These structures consisted of either a matrix of staggered bored piles or an in-line row of bored piles connected by a continuous cap beam. Lateral support was introduced through post-tensioned cables. The lateral structures served in supporting both compression and tension loads. The innovative design proved to be a timely and cost-effective solution, resulting in on-time project completion without exceeding budget.
